Even after the Joe/Cobra team aids him on a mission, he refuses to travel back in time, citing his new purpose in life as a resistance fighter.īarbeque declares that Ratchet's coming along anyway, slapping him with a disruption unit when his back is turned. There is one Transformer on the human's side, though, revealed to be the formerly peaceful Autobot medic, Ratchet. In this world, the Dreadnoks are now truly cyborgs, and they're working together with Duke (a triple-amputee with a sour attitude) as human resistance fighters. Mindbender materialize in a dystopic future ruled by the Decepticons. Finally, Barbeque, Spirit, Tomax & Xamot, and Dr. In 1937 Chicago, Roadblock, Beach Head, the Baroness and a random Cobra soldier discover Optimus Prime and the Stunticons. Lady Jaye, Zartan, Storm Shadow, and Snake Eyes appear in an economically depressed 1970s metropolitan and awaken Jazz, Bumblebee, Hot Rod, and Blitzwing. While the last miniseries created a world where both concepts can co-exist, this one feels more like a Transformers story the Joes have been dragged along into. Most likely, Jolley wants to get going with his own story, which isn't nearly as concerned with developing a conjoined continuity between the two concepts. However, it is never revealed why Starscream is so subservient to the Commander when they were previously seen bickering like Felix Ungar and Oscar Madison. With the help of Starscream, Cobra Commander claims he can take control of Teletran 3. ![]() The Commander's convinced the newly opened wormhole connecting Earth and Cybertron can grant him access to Teletran 3, enabling Cobra to exploit teleportation technology on Earth. Meanwhile, Cobra Commander visits Destro to sell his scheme for exploiting the Cybertronian supercomputer, Teletran 3. It's not as if they're much of a threat to Snake Eyes, though, who arrives in his customized black-armor robotic suit (which you would think is an obvious toy design for Hasbro, but it doesn't seem to exist in real life.) The simple-minded Aussie bikers now have new cybernetic limbs and enhancements. The colors from Jeremy Roberts are also reminiscent of the anime-influenced style Dreamwave utilized on its Transformers titles, contributing to the book's 1980s action cartoon vibe. Visually, II is cartoonier than the opening series, allowing the comic to fit more comfortably into the "afternoon Sunbow action cartoon crossover you never got in the 1980s" aesthetic. It probably didn't help that one of the Image co-founders was running his own toy company competing against Hasbro. Any official confirmation is difficult to find, but rumors in this era had Image disgruntled at the thought of becoming a "toy book" publisher. Devil's Due was also carrying on without Image Comics, the original publisher of G.I. Su, Emiliano Santalucia, and Guido Guidi. the Transformers II, with JSA writer Dan Jolley onboard to script and Tim Seeley joining him as the main artist, with assists from E. With their opening crossover miniseries a hit, Devil's Due carried on with 2004's G.I.
